Established in November 2018 initially as a family frustrated with the amount of litter in the area, we decided to tackle the issue head on and start litter picking. After a few months and lots of positive comments from other members of the public and discovering there were other people picking litter locally, we decided to start a community group and give people the opportunity to join and become part of a body designed to combat the local and global litter problem. The Hastag #CommitToYourStreet soon started and as of today we have 45 streets, lanes, roads, parks and towpaths committed to in the local area. Even better though, the initiative has caught on nationally and commits are spreading throughout Kent, Cornwall, Wales, Northumberland, Nottingham to name but a few.
In April 2019 we were gifted 50 litter Pickers by Elmbridge Borough Council for our group to use. We have distributed 30 of these to our members but retain 20 to lend to other local groups such as the beavers, cubs and scouts.
